GMB Is Now Google Business Profile- What Does This Mean for Local Businesses

Google has announced that Google My Business (GMB) will be renamed Google Business Profile. The new name also comes with new updates that can influence your local SEO efforts.

Here’s what you need to know about the change and what you can expect from the new development.

How Is Google Business Profile Different

In addition to changing the name from Google My Business to Google Business Profile, the search engine giant has also announced that claiming your business profile can now be done directly from Google search or Google Maps. All you have to do is search for your business name on Google or look for it on the Google Maps app, and from there you can claim or edit your listing. You can verify your profile or add information about your business, such as opening hours, email addresses, or even add photos to your listing.

While this option is nothing new, Google is making it clear that this is going to be the only way to manage your single listings as the Google My Business model will not be working very soon.

If your business has multiple locations, then you can use the Business Profile Manager to manage your listings.

What Does This Mean for Local Businesses?

Google claims that it’s only trying to make things easier for businesses with this change. The search engine giant is now deliberately pushing businesses with single listings to manage their listings via Google search or Google Maps instead of relying on the soon-to-be outdated Google My Business console. At the same time, the Google Profile Manager will focus on offering support to larger, multiple-locations businesses.

While new Google changes or updates usually mean that you have to rethink at least part of your SEO strategy, it’s not the case for this one. Whether you are a business with just one location or are managing different locations across the country, there’s nothing you need to do to prepare for this change. However, this can be a great opportunity to revise and improve your local SEO strategy.
