How to Add Services to Your Google Business Profile

Google My Business is a powerful way to drive local traffic to your website. Whenever customers look for products and services in their area, Google will actually first display business profiles before the normal search result links.

Optimizing your Google My Business page is an integral component of your local SEO strategy. The goal of these profiles is to give users all the information they need in order to make a decision right there in the profile.

How Does Google My Business Work?

Let’s say you’re looking to drink a good cup of coffee in a new area. Most people will search for something like “coffee shops near me”, or something similar. Google will then take their location and search intent to show them a list of local coffee shops.

Now, with the usual search results, the user would have to click on each individual link in order to find out more information about the coffee place. But with Google My Business, they can get almost everything they need without leaving the search engine:

  • Location
  • Working hours
  • Photos
  • Contact information
  • Address
  • Services provided
  • Accessibility features
  • User reviews, etc.

Moreover, users can simply click on your address and open the Google Maps app, which can help navigate them to your business. This can greatly improve your business’s visibility in local searches and even drive more customers to your shop.

What Are Services and Google Business Profile, and How Do I Add Them?

Depending on the type of business you have, your Google My Business profile may allow you to add different types of services that reflect your business.

For instance, if you are a restaurant, your services can include:

  • Dine-in
  • Takeout
  • Delivery

Users need this information to make a decision quickly. For instance, if a restaurant lacks the “delivery” service, they know they need to keep looking for another place to order food at home, without having to call the restaurant and ask.

Here’s how you can add services to your Google Business Profile:

  • Sign in to your Google My Business Account
  • Choose the profile you want to edit if you have multiple locations and profiles
  • Choose the “Info” section from the menu
  • Scroll to the “Services” section and click Edit
  • Then, Google will provide a list of potential services that apply to your type of business
  • Select the ones that reflect your business and click save

Google also allows you to add custom services, in case the existing list doesn’t include all your offers.
